Firehouse Museum #1
Located at 214 Main St in Nevada City
The firehouse museum on Main Street was built in 1861 to serve as the firehouse. It now features relics of the Maidu Indian Culture and the Joss House which was located in the Chinese portion of Nevada City.

Grass Valley Museum
Located at Old Mt. St. Mary's Academy on the corner of Church and Chapel Streets in Grass Valley.
The Grass Valley Museum depicts the rich history of the Gold Rush days to 1930 with displays of furniture, art, and artifacts of the Victorian era. It was built in 1865 as a convent for the Sisters of Mercy.

North Star Mining Museum
Located at the end of Mill Street at Allison Ranch Road in Grass Valley. Near the intersection of Hwy 49 and Hwy 20 West.

Empire Mine State Historic Park
Located at 10791 E. Empire Street in Grass Valley.
The Empire Mine produced an estimated 5.8 million ounces of gold and became the richest and largest hardrock gold mine in the United States. If you are interested in gold rush era history this museum offers a variety of tours and exhibits.
Searls Historical Library
Located at 214 Church Street in Nevada City, it is across from the county courthouse.
Hours: 1-4 pm except Sundays and holidays.
The museum features books, photographs and manuscripts from the early history of Nevada County.

Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park
From Nevada City, travel 11-miles north on highway-49 toward Downieville. Turn right onto Tyler Foote Road, stay on the pavement and follow the yellow line to the park. The road changes names a few times (Curzon Grade Road, Back Bone Road, Derbec Road, North Bloomfield Road). These are not high-speed roads. The park is 26-miles from Nevada City.
This is the site of California’s largest hydraulic mining operation.
